Lady Cougars fall to rival Sparta
The EA Lady Cougars lost a hard fought battle to Sparta Monday night. Both teams came into the game with impressive records, and after the final buzzer, EA moved to 11-3 and Sparta improved to 14-4. Sparta defeated the Lady Cougars 65-53.
Amber Huskey led the Cougars with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals. Jordan Jaye had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocked shots, and Taylor Helton scored 8 points, had 10 rebounds, 3 steals and blocked 4 shots.
As a team, the Lady Cougars were 11 of 25 from the line.
EA fell behind early, trailing 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. They rallied late in the game outscoring Sparta 17-6 in the fourth.
Head Coach Heath Gibson said turnovers hurt his team.
“We had a hard time getting into an offensive rhythm,” Gibson said.
The EA JV team lost a very close game to Sparta. The final score was 27-22. After taking a 10-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Cougars fell behind in the fourth when Sparta outscored them 8-2.
Lacie Flowers led EA with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Grayson Emmons and Allie Brooks scored 6 points each, and Paige Allen scored 3 points. Brooks had 11 rebounds for the Cougars, and Allen had 10. The Lady Cougars were 4 of 9 from the line. They are 7-2 on the season.
Gibson said he is proud of the effort his team gave.
“We played really good defense, but struggled shooting in the second half,” he said.
