Back to school … already
In this week’s edition of Atmore News, you’ll find the Back to School section.
School in Escambia County, Ala., starts in early August this year, so we wanted to publish a couple of weeks ahead of time so parents could get the supply lists. When we’ve waited later in July in the past, folks have told us we should have printed earlier, so we’ve tried to do that.
We did run into a few problems, however. Like trying to find folks at the schools so we could get information, such as lists, dress codes, etc. (Not everything is on a Web site.) However, not ones to give up, we stuck with it.
Florida schools don’t start as early as Alabama schools, so we were unable to get the new school calendar, supply lists, etc., for Escambia County, Fla., schools.
With all that said, we will have Florida school information next week maybe and an interview with Northview’s principal Gayle Weaver.
In the meantime, if you have a child in school in the Atmore area, we hope you can use the information in the Back to School section.
Whether or not you have a child in school, we hope the find the articles on Atmore Christian School, Escambia Academy, Escambia County High School, and J.U. Blacksher High School of interest.
The summers get shorter and shorter for teachers and students. Teachers start back August 4. We were talking in the office the other day about “the old days” when school started after Labor Day in September.
I’m thinking there are a whole lot more days out of school during the school year than there used to be, so they have to start earlier to get them all in. Not sure which I’d like better – longer summers and fewer holidays or shorter summers and more holidays.
If I remember well my childhood (and it was a long time ago), I’d like the longer summers better. Remember the long lazy days?
