Thieves stealing American flags

To the editor:

This month when taking up the flags from the streets, the American Legion noticed that flags as well as poles were missing, most of them from the same street. These flags are for the community to help celebrate patriotic holidays and to keep these traditions alive.  The flags are placed there by veterans who fought for the right to continue to fly the flag as a symbol of our freedoms.

It is the plan of the veteran organizations to expand the number of flags that are available to be placed on the sides of our streets and expand the area of coverage. This will not be possible if the flags keep disappearing.
