The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Atmore program is looking for recruits for the Class of 2011. These recruits could be someone in your organization or even yourself.

What is Leadership Atmore? It is a program designed to identify and develop the leadership potential in this community. It was founded in 1993 and modeled after other leadership programs in the state. The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce coordinates the program. As a 501-C3 non-profit organization, Leadership Atmore is self-sustained through tuition and scholarships.

This program brings together a group of individuals who reflect the diversity of this community.

Leadership Atmore is a nine-month program consisting of an opening overnight retreat, seven full day sessions and graduation. Through these interactive sessions, each individual is given the opportunity to become more aware of the community in which they work or live.

The overnight retreat is held in September followed by the Leadership Skills Session in October. In November the class attends the History and Culture Session. The Healthcare Session is held in December. Other sessions include Education in January, Law Enforcement in February, Business and Industry in March, and in April the class goes to Montgomery for the Legislative Session. Yes, they have their picture taken with the governor. In May the class is given a graduation banquet.

The phrase you hear over and    over throughout the year is “I did not know that.”

What are the goals of Leadership Atmore?

* To build a network of individuals sharing a common goal – a better community.

* To motivate each person so that their leadership potential is met.

* To bring together participants and current leaders to discuss the present and future direction for this community.

* To challenge each individual to greater civic involvement.

It is important that the applicant and immediate supervisor commit to the attendance and participation policies of the program at the time the application is submitted. Leadership Atmore will require eight full working days. The class usually meets on the third Thursday of the month with the exception of December which is the second Thursday. The overnight opening retreat in September is mandatory.

Leadership Atmore is a wonderful program. As of today, there are more than 200 people who have graduated from this program – all with a common goal, a better Atmore.
