David Stokes was reappointed chairman of the Escambia County Commission in Monday’s meeting. Larry White was also reappointed as vice chairman. This will be Stokes’ fourth year as chairman. The two positions have one year terms.

In other business, the commission approved the disposition of two parcels received from the drug task force. The owner of the property, Michael Haveard was arrested and convicted of operating a “bad check” scheme.

The parcels include a home located at 306 Stallworth Drive in the Alco Community. Sealed bids will be taken and proceeds from the sale of the home will be placed in a fund which supports the Escambia County Drug Task Force.

The other property is located in East Brewton near the river and floods often. County administrator Tony Sanks said because the property floods, it will be given to the City of East Brewton. Haveard operated a business on the property. Sanks indicated the property will be cleared by the City of East Brewton.

The commission also approved an oil, gas and mineral lease with Eagle Rock Energy out of Houston, Texas.

They also ratified a declaration of a state of emergency relating to the December flooding. Sanks said the declaration is a necessary step in order to receive state and federal emergency management funds.

County officials also approved the disposition of two used county vehicles. One of the vehicles is a 1990 GMC truck and the other is a 1990 van. Both vehicles have over 300,000 miles.
