ACH Auxiliary honored
The ladies and gentleman of the Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary were guests of honor at an appreciation dinner Thursday, May 20.
They who serve others were themselves served by members of the hospital staff.
A big part of the annual dinner is the presentation of service pins for cumulative volunteer hours.
ACH Administrator Bill Perkins said last year alone, auxiliary members volunteered 4,584 hours.
The value of the manhours served and the items provided by the auxiliary for the hospital would total more than $50,000, Perkins said.
Since the auxiliary program started at ACH, the hours volunteered to date total 40,720.
“I can’t tell you how much the hospital appreciates you,” Perkins said. “We are so thankful for all you do for us.”
Entertainment for the evening was provided by 60 Grit – Dr. Jonah McIntyre on harmonica and his brother Jesse from Mobile on guitar and vocals. They performed several gospel blues numbers Jesse wrote.
At each annual dinner, an auxiliary member is named Volunteer of the Year. This year, two volunteers were honored – Annette Dawe, immediate past president served for 12 years, and Mildred Hall immediate past secretary served for 10 years.
This year’s officers are Evelyn Turberville, director; Pat Hall, president; Betty Lee, vice-president; Ruby Lowery, secretary; Linda Blake, treasurer; Donna Ferguson, historian.
A new committee has been formed – Way and Means.
One of the committee’s first goal is to come up with new ideas for the gift shop – possibly re-doing the shop and adding new items.
Each auxiliary member was given a gift at the end of the evening.
