Not once,

not twice,

and not three times,

but for the fourth consecutive time the Escambia Academy boys’ varsity track team won the AISA 2A State Championship. And, on top of that the Lady Cougar varsity track team won their second straight AISA 2A State Championship.

On Wednesday, the runners for both boys and girls had to qualify by being one of the top 8 AISA schools. With many schools competing from AISA Districts 1A, 2A, and 3A, finishing in the top 8 was no small task. The top 8 moved on to Thursday’s competition. And on Thursday, it was crunch time for all schools.

The field events gave both the girls and boys quick points from Nathan Smith finishing 5th in triple jump, Jarett Hadley was 4th in the high jump, and Jaylen Henry finished 1st in the long jump.

For the Lady Cougars, Amber Huskey placed 1st in the discus and 3rd in shot put.

After the field events, the running events began. The Cougars and Lady Cougars took advantage of the day by qualifying for most events.

The boys 4×2 and 4×8 relay teams finished 3rd. Wade Matthews finished 4th in the 2 mile and 1 mile. Henry also won the 100 meter dash and finished 3rd in the 200 meter dash. Braxton Chastang finished 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. The boys edged Springwood Academy in the 2A competition. The boys finished 3rd overall to Tuscaloosa Academy and Lee Scott Academy.

For the girls running events, the 4×1 and 4×8 teams finished 3rd. The girls finished 1st over Autauga’s 2nd place in the 2A competition
