EA ends the regular season on a winning note
On the last game of the regular season, Escambia Academy hosted Central Christian. After the Saints failed to score in 1st inning, Jon Dean opened the bottom of the 1st with a double. Following Dean, Jarett Hadley added a single of his own moving Dean to third base. Due to an error, Dean scored. Hadley also scored off an error.
The Cougars took a 2-0 lead into the 2nd inning.
Neither team scored in the 2nd, but in the top of the 3rd inning Central Christian tied the game at 2-2.
After a scoreless 4th inning, the Cougars managed 3 runs in the 5th. In the inning, Dean scored, and Hadley and Ryan Linam scored off James Dean’s RBI double. Heading into the 6th inning, the Cougars increased the lead 5-2. The Saints failed to score again, but EA took advantage. Chason Roley and Hunter Bates scored. Roley scored off Bates’ RBI and Bates scored off an error. EA added to the lead 7-2. After EA held the Saints scoreless in the 7th, the game was over.
Keaton Maher and James Dean pitched the game as both of them prepared to pitch in the playoff games. Together, they combined to strike out 10 batters. EA’s postseason will begin in Wetumpka as they will play Edgewood Academy on Friday.
