EA holds first track meet of the year
Last Wednesday, Escambia Academy held its first track meet of the year as Sparta and Clarke Prep joined in competition. EA’s girls finished 3rd with 48 points, and the boys won with 110 points. Both JV and Varsity teams competed in the meet.
Field events started with long jump. For the girls, Victoria Sawyer finished in 6th place. JV high jump was won by Peyton Snider, 2nd by Lacie Flowers, and 3rd was Darby Sears. In Varsity high jump, Paige Lancaster finished first. Girls’ shot put was won by Amber Huskey and Carlie Broughton finished 4th. Huskey also won the Varsity girls’ discus.
After field events were over, the races began. EA’s 3200 meter relay team finished 1st with a time of 16:00.00. EA finished 2nd in the 400 meter relay. Girls 800 meter relay finished 2nd. To individual races, the 800 meter race was won by Grayson Emmons and Kristen Matthews finished 2nd. Bailey Vaughn finished 3rd and Victoria Sawyer finished 5th in the 400 meter run. The 100 meter dash was won by Niki Bryan while Flowers finished 4th and Lancaster finished 5th. Kay Leigh Miller finished 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles and Fallon Chastang finished 4th.
The Boys finished 1st in the meet with 110 points beating Clarke Prep by 84 points and Sparta by 80 points.
• In the field events, EA placed 1st-5th in the long jump with Jaylen Henry placing 1st, 2nd by Jon Dean, 3rd by Brandon Goddard, 4th by Cedo Coon, and 5th by Jarett Hadley.
• In the triple jump, Nate Smith finished 1st, Jarett Hadley finished 2nd, Goddard finished 4th, and Robert Johnson finished 6th.
• In the shot put, EA’s Robert Whatley won 1st, Will Hendrix finished 3rd, and Cameron McGhee finished 5th. In the discus, Dakota Carter finished 2nd and Braxton Chastang finished 3rd. Jarret Hadley finished 2nd in the high jump.
• In JV high jump Brandon Goins finished 2nd.
• In the 800 meter relay, EA finished 1st with a time of 1:36.56.
• EA also finished 1st in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 11:24.72.
• The Cougars won the 400 meter relay with a time of 48.16.
• In the 100 meter dash Jaylen Henry finished 1st, Goddard finished 3rd and Goins finished 4th.
• In the 3200 meter run, JP Sawyer finished 1st with a time of 14:34.
• Braxton Chastang won the 300 meter hurdles and the 110 meter hurdles while Brandon Goins finished 2nd.
• In the 1 mile run, Jacob Fields finished 2nd, James Dean finished 3rd, Philip Kabbot finished 4th, Brandon Goins finished 6th. Chason Roley finished 1st and Goins finished 2nd.
• The 200 meter dash was won by Jaylen Henry and Braxton Chastang finished 2nd and Jake Wasdin finished 3rd.
• The 800 meter run was won by Nate Smith. Michael Thompson finished 3rd and Roley finished 6th.
