Quarker seeks election to commission
David Allen Quarker Sr. has announced that he is seeking election for County Commissioner, District 5. The following was submitted by Mr. Quarker.
David is a 1979 graduate of Escambia County High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army where he served for four years. He returned home in 1984 and joined the Alabama National Guard. He served with the Guard for 20 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant (E-6) in 2004. David was also employed with the Alabama Department of Corrections from 1984-1996.
David served in Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield with the Alabama National Guard from September of 1990 to July of 1996. In 1991 when David returned home from serving with the National Guard in Desert Storm, he attended Jefferson Davis Community College and completed the Brick Masonry Trade along with General Studies; he also took General Studies at Faulkner Community College.
In 1996 David resigned from the Department of Corrections and accepted a Masonry Instructor position with the Escambia County Board of Education at the Escambia Area Vocational Center. David attended Athens State University on weekends where he majored in Technical Educational; he completed those courses in 1997.
David accepted employment with Jefferson Davis Community College in 2003 as a Masonry Instructor and to this date he is still employed with the college. In 2009 David was nominated for the Alabama College Systems Chancellors’ Award as outstanding Technical/Faculty. He presently serves as President of the National Masonry Instructors Association; he holds Construction Certification with the Alabama General Contractor’s Association and the National Center For Construction and Education Research.
David and his wife, Terry, have two children, David and Brandon. They been married for 23 years.
David feels that with the help of the people, he is qualified to improve conditions in District 5.
David will focus on litter, cleaning out ditches to get better water drainage, re-surfacing of some badly needed roads and the possibility of paving some dirt roads in District 5. “Let’s Make a Change”
