Merriline Garrett was a patriot’s patriot. I’ve never known anyone who had a heart for veterans as she did.
Mrs. Garrett passed away Monday, following a stroke on Sunday.

She touched the lives of veterans at the William Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette and Veterans Hospital in Biloxi. Gifts, tray favors, Valentines, visits, words of encouragement and appreciation – no act of kindness was too much for her.
A while back, she became active in the local VFW. Commander Lavan Martin said she encouraged the unit to start an auxiliary and they did. Always ready and willing …

Please help the Youth Police Academy
By SAMANTHA BENNETT
Atmore Police Department

It’s very expensive to run a weeklong academy and it takes everyone working together to allow these kids the opportunity to experience the things that they do. Some instructors are paid by their department with others taking vacation time from their jobs to attend and share their knowledge at this academy.
Understanding the times we’re in right now makes it difficult for area companies, organizations and individuals alike to donate on a monetary basis. Here is a lists of items that can be donated to the academy for the students attending. If we all work together and donate just one item, it …
