Jeanette Spooner Ray
Mrs. Jeanette Spooner Ray, age 82, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 in Pinehurst, N.C. She was a homemaker. She was born in Dothan, Ala. to the late Beechum and Tannie Paterson Spooner.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Spooner; sisters, Lois Spooner, Mamie Synco and Pearl Adkinson.

Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband, Edwin Wood Ray of Atmore; one son, Joe (Deborah) Ray of Montrose, Ala.; two daughters, Kathy (John) Hasty of Pinehurst and Mary (David) Crane of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Brandi (Mark) Scwartz, Sherri (Jason) Ivey, Emily Ray, Ben Ray, and Allen Ray; great-grandchildren: Raygen Scwartz, and LeighAnne Ivey.

Graveside services were held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery, with Bro. John Brannon officiating.  Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends after the graveside at the Ray’s residence on Fernway Drive.

Carl Leslie Cooper
Mr. Carl Leslie Cooper, age 55, of Bratt, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 in Mobile, Ala. He was a Marketing Associate with Sysco. He was born in Pensacola, Fla. to Lawrence Madison and Doris Troutman Cooper. He was a 1975 graduate of Ernest Ward.

Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Shannon Z. Cooper; one son, Leslie Cooper; one daughter, Lindsey Cooper; mother, Doris Cooper; one brother, Marion Cooper all of Bratt; one sister, Judy (Chip) Gilmore of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kendall Cooper and Bentley Hale.

Graveside services were held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 9 a.m. in Godwin Cemetery, Bratt. with Rev. C.L. Langford officiating.

Mirtis B. Anderson
Mrs. Mirtis B. Anderson, age 96, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Andalusia, Ala. to the late J.D. and Rosa Lee Everage Brunson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Atmore and was the co-owner of Anderson’s Department Store.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lukie Anderson.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her sons, Daulton (Brenda) Anderson and Foster (DyAna) Anderson all of Atmore; her grandchildren, Jeff Anderson, David Anderson, Kristen Kaiser and Andy Anderson and great grandchildren Daulton, Amanda, Kimberlynn and Delanie.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received  friends Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Cecil Mims Murphy, Jr.
Mr. Cecil Mims Murphy, Jr., age 70, of Excel, Ala., passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013. He was born in Century, Fla. to the late Cecil Mims Murphy, Sr. and Janie Dawson Murphy. He was a teacher for thirty-four years teaching Vocational Agriculture at Tuskegee High School, Monroe County High School, Escambia County High School and served as principal of Frisco City High School for two years. He was also employed with Alfa as a claims adjustor and public relations. He was a member of Carney Masonic Lodge $549 and was a member of The Cattleman’s Association. He was also a farmer and business man. He was a member of Excel Baptist Church.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Susan Lovelace Murphy; two sons, Mark Duane Murphy (Cindy Rowell), Michael Scott Murphy (Jimmie Lynn Courtney); sister, Charlotte J. Murphy; brother Thomas E. Murphy; brother-in-law, Sam Lovelace (Pat Owen),; six grandchildren, Matthew D. Murphy (Candace Smith), Morgan D. Murphy, Mark Logan Murphy, Wesley R. Parker, Mallorie B. Murphy, Micah Leighann Murphy; great-granddaughter, Matison N. Murphy; five nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 22, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Excel Baptist Church with the Rev. Q. T. Curtis officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery, Atmore, Ala. The family received friends one hour prior to service time.

Pallbearers were Tommy Bradley, Jeral Jordan, George Melton, Bill Scruggs, Wallace Byrd, Alfred Nall, Jimmie Dale Dawson and Harry Lowery.

Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Murphy, Morgan Murphy, Logan Murphy, Wesley Parker and the Men’s Sunday school class of Excel Baptist Church.

Danny Amerson
Mr. Danny Amerson, Sr., 64, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Stapleton, Ala. He was a native of Bratt, Fla. and has resided in Stapleton for the past twenty-five years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Amerson; two brothers, Jimmy Hibbitts and Eddie Amerson and one sister, Sandra Lee Wilson.

Mr. Amerson is survived by his father, R.J. Amerson of Bratt; two sons, Daniel Frank Amerson, Jr. of Miss. and Robert Dylan Amerson of Stapleton; one step-son, Joe Amerson of Charlotte, N.C.; one step-daughter, Jennifer Amerson Parnell of Fairhope, Ala.; one brother, Bobby Amerson of Bratt; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. C.L. Langford officiating. Burial  followed at Godwin Cemetery.

The family received friends Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 1 p.m. until funeral time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were  Joe Joe Bankester, David Amerson, Jr., Pete Amerson, Jimmy Boyington, Jimmy Wilson and Andy Amerson.

Joseph Grace
Mr. Joseph Grace, age 62, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his residence.

Public viewing was Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Funeral Home Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Christian Center.

John Scott
Mr. John Scott, age 72, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Atmore Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. from First Baptist Church, McCullough, Ala.

Christian Memorial Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Larry Clark
Mr. Larry Clark, age 60, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Mobile, Ala.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC.
