Add another 1A District Championship title for the Boys of Fall at Northview High School. With their 40 to 6 taming of the Baker Gators Friday night, Nov. 2, the Chiefs will now prepare for a playoff showdown with Cottondale on Nov. 16 at the Chiefs’ stadium. Between now and then, however, is a non-district game with 5A West Florida Tech this Friday night.

Northview’s defense continues to dominate the district, allowing no points in the last 14 quarters straight. The 6 points the Baker Gators scored occurred on a Chief offensive fumble, which happened on a bad snap at the beginning of the game. The ball went into the end zone, and a quick-thinking Gator, Andrew Allen, recovered it, giving them their only score for the night. Immediately following, Chiefs quarterback Kevin Vaughan found Neiko Robinson with a 70-yard successful pass. A successful extra point kick, and the Chiefs were up, 7 to 6. The pair did the same thing in the second quarter.

Third and fourth quarters tagged scores from LaMikal Kyles, with 12- and 88-yard runs; Vaughan on 3 yards; and Robinson, with a 30-yard interception as well, making the final score Chiefs 40, Gators, 6.

Northview’s defense held the Baker Gators to 249 yards in total offense. The Chiefs now move up to #6 in Division 1A.

I would be wrong if I told you that this Friday night’s game didn’t really matter to us. My buddies and I know going into it that we are a 1A school, having lost only to Chipley (a 4A school) and Gulf Breeze (a 5A school). We also realize that West Florida Tech just whipped a 7A school and remain undefeated. They are the District 5A Champs this year, but we are the Chiefs, the District 1A Champs, and we love a challenge. This Friday night’s game will not make or break us as far as the play-offs go, but we want to use it as a great preparation for facing noble opponents. Yes, our eyes are on Nov. 16, but this Friday night is important too. Not only is it our last scheduled game for the regular season, but it is senior night, where all seniors and their parent(s) are recognized before the game. I have waited for this night for a long time. Come out and support the Chiefs on our home field at 7 p.m. See you there!
