Last Friday night, Nov. 2, the J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs received their third and final win, tying up the 2012 season, against the Pleasant Home Eagles. While at any moment the game could have switched favors, the Bulldogs were intent on going out with a win, which they proudly claimed with a 30-22 victory.

The first quarter started off with a Blacksher kickoff to Pleasant Home. The Eagles’ offensive play soon came to an end after a fumble put the Bulldogs in control of the ball. After swapping from Blacksher to Pleasant Home to Blacksher once again, the Bulldogs fumbled twice, the second fumble being lost to the Eagles and remained that way until the start of the second quarter. This quarter Blacksher and Pleasant Home were only a few numbers shy of each other with 63 yards for the Bulldogs and 64 yards for the Eagles.

The second quarter began with a Pleasant Home touchdown with a successfully executed 2-point conversion putting the score at 8-0. The Eagles kicked off to Blacksher, shortly after #31 senior Tyler Turk punted for 30 yards. Once returning to offensive play, the Bulldogs make a touchdown at the end of the second, but the extra point was no good. After kicking off to Pleasant Home, a pass was intercepted by #5 junior Preston Presley. Moving into half-time the score was 8-6 with 85 rushing yards for Blacksher, and 69 yards for Pleasant Home.

The Eagles kicked off to Blacksher after halftime and with 7:28 on the clock, #31 punted to the Eagles. Their short time on offense ended with a touchdown making the score 16-6. Blacksher answered with a touchdown of their own, but an incomplete pass kept them from receiving extra points and put them at 16-12. With only 14 seconds remaining in the third, #15 senior Chase Reid ran the ball in for another Blacksher touchdown; the field goal was unsuccessful, but the Bulldogs were now in the lead with 18-16. A kickoff to the Eagles ended this quarter. Pleasant Home had 64 yards to Blacksher’s 63.

The fourth and final quarter was eventful with touchdowns, and both teams racked up their most yardage of the game.

Pleasant Home started off on offense, but Blacksher was the first to make a touchdown this quarter with 7:45 on the clock. The extra point was no good and the score was now 24-16. Pleasant Home ran 4 plays with 2 incomplete passes before Blacksher took over and made their final touchdown of the game, putting the score at 30-16. Later on in play, a Blacksher fumble enabled Pleasant Home to make their final touchdown with no extra points. Blacksher had 89 yards and Pleasant Home had 114 yards. Blacksher ended this nail-biter of a game with a 30-22 score, wrapping up their season on a good note and hope to further improve next year.

Blacksher wishes all the best of luck to the seniors of 2013.
