Elise Scott Crook

Mrs. Elise Scott Crook, age 92 of Fairhope, Ala. and formally of Atmore, Ala, passed away Friday August 19, 2011 in Daphne, Ala. She was a retired school teacher. She was born in Cedar Hill, Ala. to the late George English and Elizabeth Lee Morrissette Scott. She was the president of the Atmore Red Cross chapter, past president of the United Methodist Women, member of the DAR Society, Atmore Citizens of the Year and was an active member of Alabama Women’s Dental Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Samuel F. Crook and a son Samuel F. Crook, Jr.

Mrs. Crook is survived by two sons, Charles Crook and wife, Cindy of Culpepper, Va. and Fred Crook and wife, Karen of Fairhope; one daughter-in-law, Dawn Crook of Repton, Ala.; two brothers, Charlie Scott and wife, Leah, Gorin Scott and wife, Joyce all of Uriah, Ala.; one sister, Blanche Binford of San Antonio, Texas, five grandchildren, Alison C. Hulsey, Elizabeth C. Dickinson, C.J. Crook, Carrie Crook, and Rachael Crook.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Reece, Rev. Tim Trent, and Rev. Diane Everette, officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Fred Crook, Charles Crook, C.J. Crook, Charles Scott, George Alford, George Scott and Rob Scott.

The family received friends, Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home

Raymond Thomas

Mr. Raymond “Nuke” Thomas, age 57, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born to Willie and Lois Thomas. He attended Brewton City School. He obtained the rank of Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. After service he attended Reid State Technical College obtaining a degree in Brick Masonry. He was a member of Saint Siloam Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gillie Gross; step-father, Eddie Lee Brown; Lelvin Hall, brother-in-law; Mary Thomas, sister-in-law and Lakeshia Thomas Bizzell (niece).

Mr. Thomas is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lois Brown of Brewton; three brothers, Neal (Joanna) Thomas, Eddie Lee Thomas and Morris Thomas, all of Brewton; two sisters, Linda (Steve) Roby of Baltimore, Md. And Clara (Henry) Sellers of Stockbridge, Ga.; one step-brother, Leon (Mary) Stallworth of Brewton; two aunts, Sylvia Thomas of Brewton and Eula Cannon of Jacksonville, Fla. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close special friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 20, 2011 At 11 a.m. at Second Saint Siloam Church with Rev. Willie Blue officiating. Interment followed at Piney Grove Cemetery (Kirkland Road), Brewton.

Pallbearers were Henry Sellers, Sedrick Hall, Carlos Hall, Steve Roby, Joe Guster and Avery Thomas.

Flower bearers were relatives and friends.

Danielle Danee Boyd

Ms. Danielle Danee Boyd, age 21, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011. She was born in Detroit, Mich. She was a graduate of Kettering High School and pursued a higher education at Kaplan Career Institute as a medical assistant.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marjorie Clemons Brown and David and Aline Boyd, Sr.

Ms. Boyd is survived by her parents, David and Glena Boyd, Jr. of Detroit; a loving fiancé Kewann Anthony of Detroit; brother, David (Crystal) Boyd III; two sisters, Kuristan (Veson) Lowe and Tenyia Brown Boyd; two half-brothers, Marqual Boyd and Kippie Session, all of Detroit; three nephews, Kenton, Vallen and Reggie of Detroit; grandparents, Elder Jasper and Carolyn Brown, Sr., of Atmore, Ala.; uncles and aunts, Christopher Brown of Canada, Marjorie (Aaron) Curry, Machell (Alvin) Johnson, Maxine Spencer, Andrea Gainey, Jasper (Mickie) Brown, Jr. and Bernard Bryant, Jeanette Foster, Verdean Hollings, Jean Cook, Robert (Denise) Boyd, Cassandra Johnson and Kenneth Boyd and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 1 p.m. from Jones Street True Pentecostal Holiness Church with Bishop Dr. Willie L. Williams, Pastor, officiating.

Pallbearers were Aaron Curry, Sr., Aaron Curry, Jr., Bernard L. Bryant, Christopher Brown, David Cornelius Boyd, Jr. and Robert Boyd.

Flower attendants were friends of the family.

Houston G. Conway

Mr. Houston G. Conway, age 89, of Pensacola, Fla., retired owner of Conway-Spence Insurance, passed away August 25, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Huxford, Ala. to Wilson E. and Maudie Mack Dorriety Conway. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Conway is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Eva Roach Conway; one daughter, Portia (Jim) Kimbrel; one grandson, Jameson Kimbrel, all of Pensacola; one sister, Trudie Harris of San Antonio, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel with Rev. Jim Willis officiating. Interment followed at Godwin Cemetery, Bratt, Fla.

The family received friends Monday, August 29, 2011 at l p.m. until service time at Petty-Eastside Chapel.

Viola Montgomery Jackson

Mrs. Viola Montgomery Jackson, age 74, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011. She was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Raymond and Minnie Montgomery. She attended Escambia County Training. While living in Miami, Fla. she was employed for City and Marks Cleaners for thirty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by two daughters, Christine Montgomery of Miami and Shirley (Alfonso) Curry of Youngstown, Ohio; brother, Elkanah (Nutien) Montgomery of Miami; two sisters, Lola Griffin of Live Oak, Fla. and Bertha Claudsell of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandsons, Tito Montgomery, Jeffery Howard and three granddaughters, Tangela (Gary) Vansmanfile, Natasha Jones and Joyce Jackson and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren along with cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Johnson, officiating. Interment followed in Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were family and friends.

Andrew Daniel Milton, Jr.

Mr. Andrew Daniel (Devie) Milton, Jr., age 90, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011. He was born to the late A.D. Milton, Sr. and Gertrude (Moore) Milton. He was educated in Atmore and was employed by Monsanto in Gonzalez, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie (Joseph) Thames and Clementine (Louise) Bishop; brother, Simon (Lillian) Milton; daughters, Linda Milton-Baxter, Melanise Milton and a son, Gralen Milton.

Mr. Milton is survived by his brothers, Robin Watson and Earnest Watson; aunt, Maxine Bell; daughter, Amelia (Luther) Thomas-White of Pensacola, Fla.; sons, Willie J. (Yvonne) Chatman of Orange, N.J., Johnnie (Linda) Milton of Fairfield, Calif., Willie (Louise) Milton, Stephen (Lisa) Milton, all of Atmore, Ala, Michael Milton of Atlanta, Ga., Jerrell Milton, Andre (Tawada) Milton of Pensacola; thirty-six grandchildren and a host of great-grands, great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillead Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Davis, officiating with interment in Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Derrick Arnold, Jerrell Rogers, Llewellyn White, Gralen Montgomery, Frankie Chatman, Terrence Chatman, Willie Chatman, Johnnie Milton, Jarrell Milton, Stephen Milton, Tracy Rabizee, Luther White, Willie D. Milton, Michael Milton, Andre Milton and Ansar Baxter.

Ellen Voncille Brooks

Mrs. Ellen Voncille Brooks, age 66, of Perdido, Ala., passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at her residence. She was a homemaker. She was born in Monroe County, Ala. to the late Varney C. and Ida Mae Smith Black.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her husband, Jimmie Brooks of Perdido; three daughters, Tammy L. Barnett and husband, Junior of Loxley, Ala., Shelia Janes and husband, Randy and Tracy Nichols all of Perdido; five grandchildren, John, Ashley, Brianna, Haven and Macy.

Funeral services were held Monday August 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Elder V.M. Barnett officiating. Interment followed in Brooks Cemetery in Baldwin County.

Active Pallbearers were Chad Godwin, Steve Newburn, Bruce Jackson, Jamie Brooks, Donnie McDonald and Brad Brooks.

The family received friends Sunday, August 28, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Nettie Elizabeth Brown

Mrs. Nettie Elizabeth Brown, age 91, of Bay Minette, Ala., passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at Oakwood Nursing Home in Bay Minette.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC.
