Acting on a tip, the Drug Task Force and Atmore Police Department arrested an Atmore man for the manufacture of meth in his home on 5th Avenue Monday evening.
Drug Task Force investigators Scott Walden and Paige Howell and Atmore Police officer Stephen Waguespack arrested Richard Jacob Akers, 30. Also in the home were Akers’ pregnant wife, Tiffany Wendt, and two small children, approximate ages 2 years and 16 months. The couple previously lived in Arizona and moved to Atmore two years ago.
The officers seized a meth lab that was set up in the back part of the house. They also seized precursors – chemicals related to the manufacture of meth. Akers had apparently just finished a “cooking” and 12.2 grams of finished meth were seized as well.
Walden said Akers will be charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamines, unlawful manufacture of meth, and possession of precursors. Other charges are pending.
The Department of Human Resources (DHR) was notified about the children in the home.
