Joe Larry Sims
Mr. Joe Larry Sims, age 68, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010 at a Pensacola, FL hospital. He was a native of Century, Fla. and a resident of Huxford, Ala/ for most of his life. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and attended Huxford Baptist Church.
Mr. Sims is survived by his wife, Kathi Sims of Huxford; two sons, Timmy Sims and Craig Sims, both of Huxford; two daughters, Karen Metts of Robinsonville, Ala. and Pam Knowles of Flomaton, Ala.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Sims of Spanish Fort, Ala. and Johnny Smith of Atmore, Ala. and two sisters, Cheryl Sims of Robertsdale, Ala. and Debbie Rowell of Atmore.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 20, 2010 between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating.
John Dillinger “Bugs” Brown
John D. “Bugs” Brown, age 72, of Buck Smith Road in Poplar Dell, Fla., passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010. He was born in McDavid, Fla. and lived much of his life there before living in Gulf Breeze, Fla. for 21 years before returning to Poplar Dell. He was a member of Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his best friend and most loving wife of 44 years, Dorothy Smith Brown; parents, Vernie Hampton and Nancy Ella Brown, and siblings, Flora Jean Thomley and Hampton Eugene “Sonny” Brown.
Mr. Brown is survived by his children, Dottie Kay and David Radcliffe and John Hampton and Paula Brown all of Gulf Breeze; grandchildren, Kristen Nicole Radcliffe, Holly Jean Brown, Nicholas Ryan Radcliffe, Brittany Frances Radcliffe, and Kara Riann Brown; siblings, Johnnie Mobidine Johnson of Christian Home, Fla., Joe R. and Ann Brown of Gulf Breeze, Jerry D. and Darlene Brown of Elsenor, Ala., and Buster and Ruby Smith of Poplar Dell and numerous nieces, nephews and too many friends to count.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church, 3131 N. Pine Barren Road, Walnut Hill, Fla. with the Rev. John Fillingim officiating.
The family received friends Tuesday, January 19, 2010 from 1 p.m. until funeral time at Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church. Burial followed at Christian Home Cemetery with Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. directing.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Joey Brown, Mark Brown, Aaron Smith. Darrin Smith, John Johnson, and grandson, Nicholas Radcliffe.

Ouida Richerson Bunch
Mrs. Ouida Richerson Bunch, a native of Stockton, Ala. and resident of Atmore, Ala., passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at a local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leslie Richerson and Bessie Trest Richerson and her husband, Jimmy Glenn Bunch.
Mrs. Bunch is survived by her daughter, Kimberly B Jernigan (Steve) of Atmore; son, Kendall G. Bunch (Michelle) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren Darby and Derek Jernigan; sister, Bessie Marie Owens of Atmore; brother, Sibley T. Richerson of Stockton, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service was held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Atmore Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. with a visitation from 12 until 1 p.m. Services were officiated by Rev. David Grayson.
Charles Norman Madison
Mr. Charles Norman Madison, age 77, of Lillian, Ala., died Monday, January 11, 2010 at Creekside Senior Village in Pensacola, Fla. He was born to Vivian Mae Allen and Thomas W. Madison in Semirah Springs, Ala. He was a member of the “Barnes Boys” while playing sports for the Atmore Blue Devils. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was employed by Escambia County School District. He completed his masters at Mississippi College and retired from the school system as an assistant principal. He later joined AFLAC where he worked for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jane French Madison; a daughter, Jane Madison and grandson, Peyton Madison.
Mr. Madison is survived by his wife, Sandra Dreher Madison; sons, Scott Madison and wife Libby, Mike Madison and wife, Barbara, Miles Madison and wife, Tami and a daughter, Ann Madison Walker and husband, Stuart; brother, Carl Madison and wife, Grace; grandchildren, Clifford, Justin, Vivian and Gloria Walker, Victoria and Trent Madison, Caty Madison, Cale and Whitney Madison.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home. Burial followed at Semirah Springs Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Gateway Church of Christ, Pensacola, Fla. from 3 until 5 p.m. and Monday, January 18, 2010 from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Burl Woods, age 66, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at a Mobile hospital.
He was a native of Uriah, Ala. and a resident of Atmore, Ala. for the past 46 years. He was the owner of Alabama Tank Inc. and attended Judson Baptist Church.
Mr. Woods is survived by: his wife of forty-four years, Mona Woods of Atmore; his son, Kevin Burl and Julie Woods of Atmore; his Daughter, Michelle Woods and Larry Smith of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Marianna Woods, Lily Woods, Alex Smith, William Smith and Erin Smith; one brother, Raymond Woods of Semirah Springs, Ala.; three sisters, Betty Fretwell of Semirah Springs, Elizabeth Bryd of Bay Minette, Ala. and Mary Etheridge of Daphne, Ala..
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Dukes and the Rev. Henry Wilson officiating. Burial followed at Judson Cemetery.

Lula Estelle Reynolds
Mrs. Lula Estelle Reynolds, age 93, of Huxford, Ala., died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at her residence. She was owner of Parmer’s General Merchandise and Postmaster of Huxford Post Office. Her family was voted Outstanding family in Southwest, Ala. in 1963, she was a member of Huxford Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Parmer; husband, Abbley A. Reynolds; parents, Robert Olen and Lillie Pearl Isler Pryor and one brother, Robert L. Pryor.
Mrs. Reynolds is survived by three sons, Gerald Parmer and wife, Patsy, of Huxford, Olen Parmer and wife, Judy of Brewton, Ala. and Charles D. Reynolds of Mobile, Ala.; three daughters, Levane Vickrey and husband, Lawrence of Molino, Fla., Vivian Vickrey and husband, C. B., of Germantown, Texas and JoAnn Meadows and husband, Zackie of Mobile; one sister, Lena Pryor Folmar of Huxford; 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, January 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. from Huxford Baptist Church with Rev. Jesse Woods officiating. Interment followed at Huxford Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Huxford Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until service time.

Marsetta Olvin “Aunt Micki” Wiggins McIlroy
Mrs. Marsetta Olvin “Aunt Micki” Wiggins McIlroy, age 85, of Atmore, Ala., died Thursday, January 14, 2010, in Pensacola, Fla. She war retired from the U.S. Army Dept. of Defense Civil Service, born to the late Wiley C. and Eunice Merritt Wiggins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. McIlroy, Jr.; a son, Roy Faulkner; a grandson, Roy Faulkner, Jr. and four brothers, W.C.Wiggins, Marvin O. Wiggins, Burton E. Wiggins and Billy G. Wiggins.
Mrs. McIlroy is survived by two granddaughters, Kay F. Lane and Gaye Hamblin; two great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Godwin Cemetery with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Mrs. Nora Whatley, age 84, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in Bay Minette, Ala. She was a native and lifelong resident of Bay Minette and attended Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey Whatley; three sons, Harold Whatley, Herman Lee Whatley and Fat Whatley, one daughter, Hazel Whatley.
Mrs. Whatley is survived by three sons, Howard Whatley of Mobile, Ala., Harvest Whatley of Pine Grove, Ala. and BoBo Whatley of Bay Minette; three daughters, Barbara Ann Whatley and Kay Kay Whatley, both of Bay Minette and Riddie Whatley Hancock of Perdido, Ala.; a number of grandchildren, several of whom she raised; a number of great-grandchildren and a sister, Alene Kalahaus of Bay Minette.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church with Sister Helen Stewart officiating.
Burial followed at Bryars-McGill Cemetery with Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. directing.

Letcher Russell Black
Mr. Letcher Russell Black, age 69, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010. He was born in Fidelis, Fla. to Rev. L.L. and Myrtie Black. He was educated at T.R. Miller High School in Brewton, Ala. He played for the Baltimore Orioles Minor League, Bluefield Orioles of the Appalachian League and Leesburg Orioles. He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed at Monsanto for 32 years. He attended Rays Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Black.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Black of McDavid, Fla.; two sons, Eric and Kristl Black of Cantonment, Fla. and Russ Black of McDavid; his daughter, Amy Black and Wendall Cooley of Chumuckla, Fla. six grandchildren; a brother, Merle Black of Columbus, Miss., and a sister, Delores Trehern of Milton, Fla.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Brown, Rev. Brian Calhoun and Rev. James Black officiating. Burial followed at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery with Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. directing.
